Hi everyone, it’s Audrey, back with another project and tutorial to share here on the Ranger Ink blog. Today I am playing with the gorgeous Speckle Embossing Powders on a fall-inspired set of gift tags, perfect for your fall birthday, goody bags, and gift-giving needs.

I love all the different textures and colors that are in each powder that give such a variegated finish. There are even large chunks that really look like stained glass when melted. So amazing what can be done with powders. Let’s take a closer look.

Step 1: To begin, die cut a variety of leaves from Distress Watercolor Cardstock using the Fall Foliage die set.

Step 2: Place a paper towel down onto your work surface. Working one at a time, place a leaf onto the paper towel and press the Grey Tinted Embossing Ink Pad over the entire surface of the leaf. Pick up the leaf with just the very tip of a tweezer, and pour embossing powder over it. Shake off the excess, and then heat the leaf with the Heat-It Tool until the powder is melted. If you wish, pour more powder over the die cut while it is still hot, and melt it again. This really builds up the enameled look.

Step 3: Continue the process using all three colors of embossing powder until you have a good-sized pile of leaves.

Step 4: Use a small tag from the Stacked Tags die set to die cut one tag for each finished tag design. Die cut the hole at the top of the tag using the coordinating die. Use the middle-sized Stitched Rectangle die to die cut two rectangles for each finished tag design.

Step 5: Ink just the top portion of the tag lightly with Antique Linen Distress Ink using an Ink Blending Tool with Foam. Ink one of the rectangles in an ombre fade starting with Antique Linen Distress Ink at the top, blending into Shaded Lilac at the bottom. Spritz the pieces with water using the Distress Sprayer. Dry with the Heat Tool.

Step 6: Place the Diamonds Layering Stencil over the inked rectangle, and ink over it again in the same colors and ombre fade as before.

Step 7: Adhere the embossed leaves onto the inked rectangles using Ranger Multi-Medium Matte adhesive, letting some of the images extend off the edge. Continue adhering leaves until the entire surface is covered. Trim off the excess from the edges.

Step 8: Place a small amount of Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls onto your work surface, and mix it with a few drops of water. Pick up the mixture with an Artist Brush, and flick the brush against your finger to create droplets over the tags. Set the pieces aside to dry completely.

Step 9: Adhere the tag behind the top of the rectangle so that just a portion extends above. Adhere lace trim behind the bottom edge. Trim off the excess lace from the sides. Adhere strips of patterned paper behind the tags so that they extend off the bottom of the tags in a crisscross fashion. Trim the ends into a V-notch. Adhere the plain die cut rectangle to the back of the tag to cover all the glued pieces. Ink the edges with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink.

Step 10: Lightly sand gold Metallic cardstock. Die cut the word Fall using alphanumeric dies. Snip apart Big Chat stickers to complete the sentiment. Ink the stickers with Brushed Corduroy Ink. Adhere the letters and stickers to the bottom of the tags using Multi-Medium Matte. Tie ribbon and twine through the top of the tags. Trim the ends as needed.
