In this project, we will be adding a focal image to your white burlap page from the Dina Wakley Blue Edition journal (although this project could be used on any page). The Collage Collective volumes leave you with so many images to use in your products as either an embellishment or as something that can be your focal point on a page. Dina often encourages her students to cut up and “shop” the book for inspiration or color. In this project, we will be using the Dina Wakley Work in Progress Cling Stamp set and images from the Collage Collective to create a beautiful lady with an intriguing headdress.
Step 1: Stamp the face and text from the Work in Progress stamp onto some white Cardstock. Trace around the head with a pencil creating a hair line, and add a neck and shoulders. Cut out.
Step 2: Cut out some flower images from the Collage Collective Vol. 2.
Step 3: Stamp some of the Scribbled Branches onto the scrap paper from your initial floral cutting from the Collage Collective. Cut out stamped flowers.
Step 4: Color in the hair on your figure with Scribble Sticks, here Penny was used. Add shading to your figure as well. Use a wet brush to blend out your shading.
Step 5: Using a Mini Blending Tool and some Gilt Acrylic paint, add some texture to the hair of your focal image using the Mighty Waves stencil.
Step 6: Cut out your stamped flowers and begin to arrange them with your cut-out flowers from the Collage Collective onto the top of your image’s head. The alignment is entirely up to you. Here the flowers began and branched out from the side angle. You could choose to place them on the center of the head as well.
Step 7: Stamp some flowers from the Good Idea set onto some more scraps from the Collage Collective, and cut out. Add them to your headdress to pull it together. Let some hang out from the sides.
Step 8: Cut out your stamped text and burnish around the edges with your stamp pad. Glue everything down to the burlap with Ultra Thick Gel Medium. Add some washi tape to embellish your page.
