I love drawing and doodling flowers, and the ledger journal has been such an inspiration for my flower drawing. I love taking the journal and some Scribble Sticks to work to doodle in my free time. Today I’m going to share a page using my process for drawing and painting flowers. Scroll to the bottom to watch a video of my flower-drawing process!
Step 1:Â Add coordinating colors of acrylic paint to a gel plate. Spread the paint with a brayer, and place the plate onto the journal, trying to cover just a portion of the page, not the whole thing.
Â
Step 2: Do not clean any excess paint off of the gel plate. Apply white acrylic over the top with a brayer, then press a stencil into the paint. Roll over the stencil with the brayer, then pick it up and move it, leaving an impression of the stencil in the paint. Press this over the same painted area in your journal, leaving subtle layers.Â
Â
Step 3: Once the paint is dry, use a dark colored Scribble Stick, draw some flowers in your journal. Whenever drawing flowers, I always use a reference or inspiration photo even if the flowers are simple - this helps to get the shapes correct. There are tons of inspirational photos available on Pinterest. (Scroll to the bottom of this tutorial for a video on how I drew these flowers.)Â
Â
Step 4: Once you’ve drawn the flowers, use some different colored Scribble Sticks to scribble and color along the edges of the petals - don’t fill them in completely. Here, Marine, Eggplant, Fuschia, and Cheddar were used.
Â
Step 5: Use white acrylic paint and a small round brush to paint the petals. The white paint will pick up the color from the scribble sticks and spread it through the petals.Â
Â
Step 6: Pick a stem or branch botanical stamp, place it on a stamp block, and spray it with water. Dip the same Scribble Stick you used to draw the flowers into water to activate the pigment, then color the stamp with the stick. Stamp the botanical onto the page in various places, repeating the process when needed.Â
Â
Step 7: Find a phrase from the Typed Ledger Papers, or stamp one yourself. Use Media Glue to adhere the words to the page, and then splatter with gloss.Â
