Tim Holtz Distress Hocus Pocus Card by Cheiron Brandon

Cheiron Brandon shows you how to create a Halloween card using a beautiful layered inky background technique with Distress Inks, Mica Stains & Oxide Pads.

Instructions

Hi there, crafty friends! It’s Cheiron Brandon here and today I am thrilled to be sharing this card with you using some products from the recent Distress Halloween Collection along with some brand-new Stampers Anonymous Halloween stamps.

The card I am creating today uses Distress Mica Stains. These Mica Stains are so vibrant and shiny… we will use them to create a beautiful layered inky background with Distress Inks and Oxides and then add some clean stamped elements so we don’t cover all of the inky fun!

Tim Holtz Distress Hocus Pocus Card Step 1

Step 1: Gather your supplies. Cut a panel of Mixed Media Heavystock to 3 ¼  x 8 ¼ inches, Distress Mica Stains in Bubbling Cauldron, Hocus Pocus, Flickering Candle and some Distress Inks (Fossilized Amber, Crushed Olive, Ripe Persimmon and Hickory Smoke) and Distress Oxide in Shaded Lilac.

Step 2: Create the first layer of your background. Using the non-stick sheet part of the glass mat, press the Distress Inks and Oxides onto the mat. Spray the Inks and Oxides with water using a Distress Sprayer. You will see them start to ‘bead up’. 3-4 sprays usually are the right amounts.

Step 3: Add the first Inky layer by swiping your Distress White Heavystock through the ink. Be sure just to swipe once rather than smooshing your paper back and forth into the ink.

Step 4: While your paper is still wet, add some Distress Mica Stains by placing the panel into a splat box then spraying them onto the panel, trying to keep similar color together. Keep in mind that a little goes a long way!

Step 5: Using a Ranger Heat Tool, dry the panel, spraying a bit with water using a Distress Sprayer as the panel dries.

Step 7: Stamp the sentiment from Bold Frights using Distress Archival Black Soot Ink using your stamp platform to get a nice crisp image by stamping it a few times.

Step 8: Stamp the image from Halloween Doodles using Distress Archival Black Soot Ink, also using a stamp platform.

Step 9: Add foam tape to the back of your panel and adhere the panel to a 3 ½ x 8 ½ card panel.

This simple stamping idea is great for all those backgrounds that you don’t know what to do with. Just choose a few of your favorites in Halloween Colors to turn them into Halloween cards for your friends!
