Lady Liberty Journal Spread by Cheiron Brandon

Hi there, it’s Cheiron Brandon here with another art journal page tutorial using Dina Wakley Media Products. This time the theme of my page is patriotic and I wanted the woman on the page to resemble Lady Liberty with a dress of inspiring words, as a tribute to all the brave women who have helped shape our country.

Instructions

Step 1: To start my page, I used some pages from an old collage pack that had words about the Statue of Liberty on it. I tore them up and laid the pieces horizontally across the page.

Step 2: To add some color to the background of my page, I brayered some paint in turquoise and lapis onto the Variegated Stars stencil then pressed the paint onto both sides of my page.

Step 3: Then I took the Bullseye stencil and added some Clear Gesso through it to add even more texture.

Step 4: To create my figure, I stamped one of the women from the Positive Women set onto a piece of white paper. I changed her hairstyle up a bit and added a dress.

Step 5: I created some hair and painted it in with Lemon paint. Her skin was done with a mixture of White, Rosy and Umber. I traced over the pencil lines with my Stabilo All pencil.

Step 6: To create her clothing, I used some Evergreen paint thorough the Variegated Stars stencil.

Step 7: I then added some words to the clothing using the Brave, Loyal and Strong stamps from the All The Gals set.

Step 8: When the clothing was complete, I created another piece of deli paper using various stencils and Ruby, Tangerine, Lemon and Magenta paints.

Step 9: I continued to add layers of paint through stencils until the paper was mostly covered.

Step 10: I stamped hearts from the Collaged Hearts set on the printed deli paper using Jet Black Archival Ink and cut out.

Step 11: I mixed some White and Gilt paints and using my fingers and went over the Bullseye circles I created with Clear Gesso earlier.

Step 12: Using Distress Collage Medium, I added the figure to the page and used my Stabilo All Pencil to add the lines back to the image. I added the Collaged Hearts to the page. As a finishing touch I added some Tim Holtz Idea-ology stars with Collage Medium then colored them with Gilt paint using my fingertip.

Hope you enjoyed my tutorial, and will try some of these techniques on your own. Wishing everyone a very Happy 4th of July!
