Dylusions Cupcake Delight Journal Spread by Denise Lush

Denise Lush shows you how easy it is to make this Dylusions cut-out journal spread that looks like it took hours to make but doesn't take long at all.

Instructions

It’s actually quite easy to create pages that look like they took a lot of work, with very little effort. I love doing cut outs in my journal, it adds so much fun and interest to your pages.  Let’s have some fun!

Dylusions Cupcake Delight Journal Spread Step 1

Step 1: Stamp the following images on Dylusions Media Paper:
Everything Stops for Tea: Teapot
Fancy a Cuppa: Teacup
Bake it Yourself: Cupcake liner, cake part of the cupcake, cupcake frosting, cherries, piece of cake

Color the images with Dylusions Ink Spray. The colors use in the picture are: Cherry Pie, Fresh Lime, Rose Quartz, Postbox Red, Desert Sand, Laidback Lilac, Vanilla Custard, and Black Marble.

Once colored, cut out the images as shown in the picture.

Step 2: Piece your cupcake together as shown.  You can leave the piece of striped candy attached to the frosting as it was or cut it and place it where you wish. Here it was cut and placed in a different spot.

Step 3: You will need two consecutive pages in your small black Dylusions Journal.  On the first of the two pages place your cupcake in the middle and trace around it with a pencil.

Step 4: Place the Dylusions cutting mat under your paper and cut out the traced cupcake with a knife.

Step 5: Apply some glue to the back of your pieced together cupcake. With your cut out page on the right-hand side, place the cupcake through the cutout and glue in place onto your second page.

Step 6: On the page you just glued down your cupcake, trace the stencil Quilts (large) onto your background using the Dylusions Paint Pen in White Linen. You may also trace around your cupcake.

Step 7: On the first of the two pages trace around the cupcake opening with the White Linen Paint Pen. On the upper portion (approximately 5 ¾”) of the page trace the stencil Square Dance (small). Draw a line under the cupcake and then trace the stencil Martha’s Mat (small) on the lower remainder of the page. This gives the look that maybe the cupcake is sitting on a table and there’s a wallpapered wall behind. Fun!

Dylusions Cupcake Delight Journal Spread Step 8

Step 8: Glue the rest of your colored stamp images on the page as shown. Avoid putting glue where the image will be exposed in the cut out. You can do this by tracing the back of the stamped image when you have it in place.

Dylusions Cupcake Delight Journal Spread Step 9

Step 9: On the back of the page you just finished, trace Martha’s Mat stencil on the bottom portion as you did on the first page.

On the upper portion instead of doing another stencil, have some fun writing out different kinds of cupcakes. Maybe list your favorites!

Dylusions Cupcake Delight Journal Spread Step 10B

Step 10: To cover the back of the images we glued down on the first page we need to stamp those images again, but in reverse! There is a way to do this! You will need a Gel Plate, ink, acrylic blocks and white paper. Feel free to practice on some scrap paper first. Here’s how to do it:
1. Mount your small 3.5” x 6.75” plate to the Dylusions Journaling Block. Mount the same tea pot stamp you used before onto an acrylic block. Ink it well with Ranger’s Jet Black Archival Ink.
2. Stamp that image onto the Gel Plate. Careful not to jiggle too much. Let it sit there for a little bit, like 40 seconds or so.
3. Remove the stamp and you will see the image has been transferred to the Gel Plate.
4. Now take your mounted Gel Plate and use it as a stamp. Stamping the image onto your white paper.
Voila! You have the image in reverse! It may not be quite as clear as a 1st generation stamped image but it works well!

Dylusions Cupcake Delight Journal Spread Step 11

Step 11: Cut out the reversed stamped image and glue them onto your page, lining it up with the back of the stamped image that’s visible through the cutout!

Dylusions Cupcake Delight Journal Spread Final Thoughts

Now you have a 3-page set spread in your journal that may have taken a few extra steps, but it really wasn’t a lot of work. But it sure is a Wowie!
