BROKEN Mixed Media Art Journal Page by Theresa Hammond

Follow along as Theresa Hammond shows you how to make this soul-stirring layered art journal page using Tim Holtz Distress® and Dina Wakley MEdia products. It looks like it took hours to make, but it is really quick and easy.

Instructions

Hi Everyone!  Today I used Distress® Paints and Inks, with some Dina Wakely Media Acrylic Paint to create a layered background on a piece of Distress® White Heavy Cardstock.  Using the new Distress Brayer, this background was quick and easy.  Let’s get started.

Step 1: PAINTED BACKGROUND: Using the Medium Distress Brayer, load up a 2-inch bead of Distress® Chipped Sapphire Paint and roll it out in horizontal and vertical strokes onto a piece of Distress® White Heavy Cardstock.  Repeat with the same amount of Twisted Citron paint.

Step 2: INK POUR: Using Distress Oxide Spray in Salvaged Patina, pour some ink at the top left area of the piece.

Step 3: Use the stem of the sprayer to move the ink around a bit and direct the drips of ink down the page.  Allow to air dry or dry with a Heat Tool.

Step 4: STAMPING:  Arrange the word BROKEN onto an acrylic stamping block.  Using Archival™ Ink Pad in Jet Black, stamp word randomly on the page, maintaining an either horizontal or vertical orientation.  Try to do 2nd and 3rd generation stamping impressions across the page. Stamp BROKEN onto white cardstock and cut out.

Step 6: Add additional layers using a Mini Blending Tool and Distress® Chipped Sapphire Paint through a stencil.   Draw half of a face and neck directly on the p using a Stabilo All Pencil. Using Dina Wakley Media Acrylic paint in White, paint in the face and neck without painting over the facial features.  Add shadows to the face with Chipped Sapphire paint. Tear a piece of printed collage tissue and adhere to the piece using Tim Holtz® Distress Collage Medium.  Layer the BROKEN sentiment on top of the collage tissue.
