Hi there, it’s Cheiron Brandon here and today I have some fun cards for you featuring tons of Dina Wakley Media products. I don’t know about you, but I am a huge Dina fan and I have been following her demos over the past few months over on her Art of Dina Wakley Facebook Page. She has covered a number of topics from Color Schemes to Gloss Sprays to Washi Tape ideas.
One of the videos that stood out to me were her Collage Tips. It is always a struggle to me to create collages, but it’s something I would like to get better at. So today, I have taken some of the ideas from Dina’s lessons to create a trio of cards.
What are the biggest challenges for me when creating collage work? For me, it’s leaving white space and also the placement of elements, I often forget that they should touch and spread them out too much! I love taking mixed media supplies and working them into my cards, it’s like sending a mini piece of art in the mail.
I got my supplies together including my Dina Wakley Media Gloss Sprays in Fuchsia, Cheddar, Lemon, Turquoise and lime along with my Hey You, Shape Mashup and Varigated Stars stencils and large Dina Wakley Media brush.
Step 1: To begin, cut some card panels out of Dina’s Watercolor paper to give the card a wonderful texture. Pick out a few colors of gloss spray and pour a few into your palette and then paint some quick backgrounds with the sprays and a large Dina Wakley Media Brush, making sure to leave white space.
Step 2: Once the panels dry, take the stencils and added some stenciling to each panel with a dry brush.
Step 3: On the first panel add a circle from the Collage Collective Pack using Ultra Thick Gel Medium.
Step 4: Add a piece of Collage Tissue, a stamped and cut out image from the Quirky People set and a Snarky Chit Chat Sticker.
Step 5: For the next panel, add a strip of Collage Collective along with a scrap of sprayed paper.
Step 6: To finish this panel, add another Quirky People image along with the Chit Chat Snarky Stickers.
Step 7: For the third panel, add Collage Tissue, a strip of Collage Collective, the focal image and the Chit Chat Snarky Stickers.
Step 8: Once all the panels are complete, add a bit of splatter by opening the bottle of Night Gloss Spray and using the straw part of the bottle to splatter it on all of the panels.
Step 9: When the splatter dries, adhere each piece of the panel to a kraft notecard.
It was fun to practice and work on my collage skills, I enjoyed creating these artsy cards and can’t wait to get them out in the mail.
