The denim pages in the new Dina Wakley Blue Edition Journal, beg to have at least one pocket added. These beautiful soft “pages” are very versitile and inviting to add to and embellish with mixed media elements. Follow along for a quick fun project to include in your journal
Step 1: Cut out half a page in your Dina Wakley Media Blue Journal. Feel free to use a piece of recycled denim as well, the choice is up to you.
Step 2: Using the Dina Wakley Giant Stars stencil, stencil stars on to watercolor paper in a random pattern across the page.
Step 3: Spray your stenciled page with Dina Wakley Gloss sprays. Try to create different drips and effects as you spray. You’ll find the sprays have different qualities and give you different looks as you play. Allow about ten minutes to dry completely before next step.
Step 4: Tear around an image from the Dina Wakley Collage Tissue to use as your focal point. Place it onto your stenciled and sprayed page and apply it with Dina Wakley Gel Medium. Allow to dry completely. Either cut or tear down sides of your image to create an insert for your pocket.
Step 5: Use your stencil to trace a couple of stars of varying sizes on the remainder of your paper. Cut out.
Step 6: Cut a few random stars around your image to create more dimension to your insert.
Step 7: Apply Dina Wakley Collage Tissue phrases to one of your cut-out stars and on your focal image with Gel Medium. In this project, the phrase was cut into two parts so that the phrase becomes completed when your insert is removed. Add any other embellishments that you think would add whimsy to your image. In this project a cut out crown, a star, and some left-over denim strands for hair were added with Dina Wakley Ultra Thick Gel Medium (for extra hold).
Step 8: Cut your denim into a square big enough for your insert to slide into and with about 1/4” around the pocket for stitching. Iron a 1/2” fold at (what will be) the top of the pocket. Sew it onto a denim page in your journal.
Step 9: Add some more stenciling to your page and pocket using the Giant Star stencil.
Step 10: Glue your stars and chipboard words onto your denim page with Ultra Thick Gel Medium. You now have a completed page in your Blue 8x10 journal!
