Step 1: How many of you have been wanting a spray that remained permanent when you added layers over top. I know I have, and that is what made me so excited for the Gloss Sprays. It is so easy to create super cool galaxy backgrounds with these sprays. Start with a gessoed page. Then pick a few colors that remind you of a galaxy sky. For this page Lime, Lemon, Turquoise, Magenta, Eggplant and Night were used. Spray each color generously starting with the brightest colors in the middle of the page and then work towards the outside with the darker colors. Add water to make the sprays move and blend even more. Let dry (or dry with a heat tool.) Once completely dry, use the White Gloss Spray to add splatters creating stars.
Step 2: Continue to add to the background with a word stencil and acrylic paint. Create texture using stamps from different stamp sets in black ink and use this opportunity to add journaling to the page. You can also deepen up the background edges by sponging black paint around the edges and blending with your fingers.
Step 3: The last step is to create a collage focal point. Since the background is very colorful, stamp your image on a piece of white cardstock and fussy cut out. Use the white burlap and denim pages from the journal to create additional collage pieces. It's fun to cut out windows for future pages and use the positive shapes behind the stamped image. This page also uses a torn tag that already had paint on it. Because of the heavy nature of the denim and burlap, it's best to collage with a stapler (Tiny Attacher) as well as then adhere to the page with Heavy Gel Medium.
Here are some close ups of the completed art journal page. I love creating quick backgrounds with the new Gloss Sprays. It is so nice to have our favorite paint colors in this new medium that allows us to continue adding all the juicy layers in mixed media without having to worry about it moving.
This process was filmed to show step-by-step how to use the Gloss Sprays to create gorgeous galaxy backgrounds.
