So I know it’s nearly Christmas and here in London it’s cold and dismal at the moment. I loooove Christmas, it’s my favourite time of year but I long for this long summer days spent in the garden, gorgeous flowers, the warm sun, bbq’s and the beautiful butterflies fluttering in the garden. These thoughts have inspired my project for you today….all the lovely colours make me happy…I hope they make you happy too??
Step 1: Starting with an 8×10 inch canvas, I turned it over and covered all of the reverse side including the centre with a mix of music paper and Tim Holtz tissue paper using Multi Medium.
Step 2: Using a dry brush, I started to randomly paint on colour with Dina Wakley’s fabulous acrylic paints in Lime, Turquoise and Lemon.
Step 3: For the next step I used a Dylusions small bubble stencil and some Ranger Texture Paste, putting it on in random areas with a palette knife, followed by some stamping with one of Dyan’s fabulous background stamps in a harlequin pattern using a Turquoise Archival Ink Pad.
Step 4: Next I added some more of Dina’s fabulous paints this time in Night, Ruby and Penny and rubbed them on in various places on my canvas with my fingers to create more detail.
Step 5: I stamped out Tim’s fabulous Monarch Butterfly stamp as well as a butterfly from another stamp set and coloured them in with a mix of distress inks, Dina’s acrylics and coloured pencils. Once complete, I cut these out ready to adhere to my canvas.
Step 6: Next I took a piece of wire that I had previously rusted and wrapped it around my canvas three times securing it at the side, I added some lace and ribbon from my scraps box and tied it on.
Step 7: The butterflies were then added with double sided foam tape and I curled and shaped the wings to make them stand up from the canvas.
Step 8: I stamped the sentiment from the Tim Holtz stamp set with Black Archival Ink and tore this out leaving the torn edges and then inked with my distress pads and coloured pencils. The final step was to add Liquid Pearls and Diamond Stickles onto my butterflies and randomly around the canvas.
