Every year when I start to think about what I will make to celebrate Earth Day, I look around my house to see what I can use. These glass containers once held food, but now they are going to be repurposed!

Step 1: Prepare the glass by washing the pieces thoroughly and letting them dry.  Apply Dina Wakley MEdia Clear Gesso with Brush to each piece and let dry.

Step 2: Once these are dry, you can use a variety of techniques to decorate them.

 

 SCALES:

Step 3: Hold a stencil over the surface with Dina Wakley MEdia Blank Tape.

Step 4: Mix Dylusions Shimmer Paints on Ranger Silicone Mat. Here I used Funky Fuchsia, Crushed Grape, and London Blue.

Step 5: Apply Shimmer Paint through Stencil with Ranger’s Detail Blending Tool.

Step 6: Remove Stencil and let dry.

Step 7: Sketch vines with Dina Wakley MEdia Scribble Stick in Lime.

Step 8: Paint over vines with Shimmer Paint in Fresh Lime.

Step 9: Mix Shimmer Paint in Fresh Lime and Polished Jade, then use this to freehand some leaves.

Step 10: Let dry and admire your finished glass!

Step 11: I had three of this shape of glass and I used coordinating colors to make a set. I used Shimmer Paint in Bubblegum Pink, Tangerine Dream, and Pure Sunshine. First, hold the stencil over your piece as a guide. Trace the flower with a Scribble Stick.

Step 12: Paint over your outline with a similar color of Shimmer Paint.

Step 13: My color combinations are Scribble Stick Cheddar/Shimmer Paint Pure Sunshine, Scribble Stick Blushing/Shimmer Paint Bubblegum Pink, and Scribble Stick Tangerine/Shimmer Paint Tangerine Dream.

I’ll be using these as votive holders, but you can use them as a mini vase for silk flowers, too!
