Hi everyone, it’s Audrey, and I’m so very happy to be back on the Ranger Ink project page. Today I have a very playful and whimsical birthday card to share that features the beautiful new Speckled Egg Distress Ink color along with a Ranger product I always have in my stash but just don’t use enough, Specialty Stamping Paper. This specialty paper is so amazing for ink blending. If you ever have trouble with splotches or lines, then this paper is for you.
Slimline cards have become all the rage these days, so I gave one a try. Love the tall, skinny design. Feels very fresh and different, and lots of fun. I just got some awesome new Ranger Simon Hurley goodies, and couldn’t wait to give them a try. And why not throw some of my favorite stamps from the Ranger Letter It line and my favorite die set of the year into the mix, too. So eclectic and whimsical. I hope you’ll give this combination a try.
Step 1: To begin, create a slimline 8.5 x 3.5 card base from Specialty Stamping Paper. Lay the cloud portion of the Scene Maker stencil across the bottom 1/3 of the card. Mask off the cutouts with tape, and then ink the cloud border in Speckled Egg Distress Oxide Ink using an Ink Blending Tool. Shift the stencil upwards, angle the clouds in a different direction, and ink again. Continue this process all the way up the card.
Step 2: Lay the grass edge of the stencil across the bottom of the card, and ink the grass in Shabby Shutters Distress Oxide Ink.
Step 3: Remove the middle section of the Timber Cling Rubber Background Stamp, and stamp the tree trunks onto Distress Watercolor Cardstock using Shadow Grey Archival Ink.
Step 4: Dab Pumice Stone Distress Ink onto your Silicone mat. Using clean clear water and an artist paint brush pick up the ink from the mat and add it to the tree trunks. Put down a light coat first, and let it dry. Then go back in some areas with a second application to add depth to the coloring.
Step 5: Trim a square of Specialty Stamping Paper that is slightly wider than the card base. Ink the paper with Shabby Shutters Distress Oxide Ink using an Ink Blending Tool with Foam. Place the cloud border across the bottom of the panel, and trace around the edge with a green Distress Marker.
Step 6: Trim around the traced border. Fussy cut the tree branches. Adhere all the pieces to the card base.
Step 7: Stamp the word ‘hooray’ from the Letter It Celebration stamp set onto the tree tops using Watering Can Archival Ink. Stamp the words ‘happy’ and ‘birthday’ from the It’s the Little Things stamp set onto a thin strip of Distress Watercolor Cardstock. Trim out the words. Add Foam Adhesive behind the word strips, and adhere them to the tree tops, just under the stamped sentiment.
Step 8: Die cut a Feathered Friends bird from Distress Watercolor Cardstock. Mask off the bird’s back, tail, and head with tape, and ink the bird with Speckled Egg Distress Oxide ink. Ink the wing with Speckled Egg Oxide. Watercolor the beak with Wild Honey Distress Ink. Watercolor the eye and legs with Pumice Stone Distress Ink. Add small flecks of Pumice Stone Distress Ink to the bird’s neck. Assemble the bird pieces using Foam Tape. Put some dots of Ranger Multi-Medium Matte Adhesive onto the back of the bird, and then attach it to the bottom right corner of the card.
Enjoy!
