Hi there! It’s Cheiron Brandon and I am back with another fun tutorial using Tim Holtz Distress. Today I am combining Distress Crayons and gesso with stencils to create a card that is perfect for Mother’s Day or any special day! It’s super fun and easy, and I love to create a whole bunch of these backgrounds to have on hand for card projects. Â
Â
Step 1: Gather up your supplies. I used Distress Watercolor Cardstock, Distress Crayons in Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, Abandoned Coral, Spiced Marmalade and Saltwater Taffy. I also used one of the newest Tim Holtz stencils, Deco Leaf and the Watercolor and Crazy Talk Stamp sets. Â
Â
Step 2: Add some white gesso to your glass mat or other palette. Â
Â
Step 3: Using a paint brush, cover a panel of Distress Watercolor Cardstock with the gesso. Â
Â
Step 4: Let the gesso dry completely, or dry with a heat tool. Â
Â
Step 5: Scribble on the first color of Distress Crayon. Â
Â
Step 6: To blend the crayon, use your finger. I find it easiest to spray some water on my glass mat and pick up a little with my fingertip to help blend. Â
Â
Step 7: Continue scribbling and blending the remaining Distress Crayon colors. Â
 Â
Step 8: Keep blending until the entire panel is blended. Â
Â
Step 9: Lay your stencil over the blended panel, and wipe over the stencil with the wipe to remove the color. Pick the stencil up, and line it up then to remove color from the remainder of the panel. Â
 Â
Step 10: Gather the Watercolor stamps and Distress Oxide Inks in Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade and Abandoned Coral. Â
Â
Step 11: Stamp the butterflies in each color of the oxide inks and cut the butterflies out, I like to leave a white edge.Â
Â
Step 12: Stamp the sentiment from the Crazy Talk set.  Â
Â
Step 13: Add foam tape to the back of the cut-out butterflies. Â
Â
Step 14: Adhere the sentiment and the butterflies to the card.  Â
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will try this fun Distress Crayon technique out for yourself! Â
