Having fun recording the seasonal changes in your art journal is a good thing. Here a gel plate was used for different effects to create a holiday-themed spread. Follow along to see some new ways to create beautiful art in the Dina Wakley MEdia Mixed Media Journal.
Step 1: Spread some Turquoise and Sand Acrylics on the Gel Plate with a Brayer to create a mixed color field.
Step 2: Place the gel plate face down in your journal and then press it onto your page. Peel back up. This is a great way to create fast and easy backgrounds with texture onto your journal pages.
Step 3: Using the Bonds stencil and some White Gesso, stencil randomly onto your background.
Step 4: Stencil some flowers from the Growing Masks stencil onto the Gel Plate. (Although you could just stencil onto your page, this gives a newer more textured and grungy look).
Step 5: Press your plate onto your page and repeat for desired amount of flowers.
Step 6: Take a Mini Blending Tool and swab it into some Ruby paint. Press the sponge on your page and twist it to make a circle. Repeat randomly across the page. This is a new fun way to use your Mini Blending Tool to create background details.
Step 7: Stamp some birds from the Nesting Birds stamp set onto some white cardstock with Archival Ink and cut out. Add some doodles to your page.
Step 8: Stamp a block from the Stencil Alphas set onto some cardstock in Archival Ink (Barn Door) and cut out. Stamp a phrase from Just What to Say into the center of the block in Archival Ink Jet Black. Add some hats from scraps to your birds for a bit of whimsy and glue everything down.
Step 9: For some real holiday sparkle add some Stickles Glitter Glue (Unicorn) to your page. Allow to dry.
