When the need to unwind strikes, Jess Peters turns to her art journal as a place to explore, play, and let go. Using Dylusions Paints, stencils, and mark making, she built a bold and colorful page that’s as freeing as it is fun. The vibrant palette is a reminder that creativity doesn’t have to be perfect — it’s about expression, experimentation, and finding joy in the process.

Hello again, friends! Sometimes when I need a little art therapy I like to experiment with mark making. The repetitiveness of it is so therapeutic and it’s a great exercise in letting go of perfectionism. The bright, happy palette of Dylusions paints never fail to lift my spirits either! I hope it inspires you to take some time for yourself and try something new.
Step 1: Open to a blank mixed media page in your Dylusions Classics Journal (make sure there is a blank black page before it). Spread Dylusions Flip Cap Paint in Lemon Drop onto your page in a few different areas with a baby wipe or paintbrush.
Step 2: Apply Dylusions Paint in Strawberry Daiquiri, Tropical Sangria, and Mango Punch in the same manner until your page is covered. Apply multiple layers of paint to achieve an even brighter look.
Step 3: With a Mini Ink Blending Tool, apply Dylusions paint in Cherry Pie through a small On Point stencil to a few different areas of your page. Repeat with Lemon Zest paint through a small Drip Drop stencil.
Step 4: Using a balled up piece of aluminum foil, “stamp” Squeezed Orange paint all over your page to make grungy marks. Take a bunch of Q-tips dipped in Island Parrot paint and create another layer of marks.
Step 5: Use the cap from a Dylusions glue stick and Calypso Teal paint to make rows of interesting shapes across your layout and stamp circles with the Mini Ink Bending Tool dipped in Periwinkle Blue paint.
Step 6: Once your page is completely dry, use a gold Posca Pen to do some journaling and add details to the blue circle. Splatter your page with White Linen paint watered down a bit.
Step 7: Flip to the black page before and draw an approximate ¾ inch border around your page. Also draw a circle near the middle. (you can use a coffee cup or lid to a jar to trace as well)
Step 8: Place the large On Point stencil on your page and trace the areas between the border and the circle.
Step 9: Use a craft knife to cut out the diamond shapes. Make sure your Dylusions cutting mat is underneath to protect your journal.
Step 10: Find the quote that reads “I’m still kind of a mess, but I think we all are” from set #2 of the Bigger Back Chat and stick it to the middle circle.
Step 11: With a white Posca Pen scribble a border around your page and around the circle to complete!
