Colorful Accordion Book with Dina Wakley Glosses by Laura Dame

Laura Dame brings vibrant layers to life in this stunning accordion book, using Dina Wakley MEdia Glosses–including the new Clear Gloss–paired with stencils, stamps, and more for a bold, textured finish.

Instructions

I’m obsessed with the new Clear Gloss and how it reacts with other glosses. My new favorite papers to make use the Clear gloss as a resist with stencils. It is so much fun to play and see what happens!

Step 1: Take out a piece of cardstock and some Media Board. Choose a stencil or two and lay them over the substrates. Spray clear gloss through the stencil, then flip the stencil over and “stamp” the excess onto the substrates. Let everything dry. Then, flip the cardstock over and spray the other side. Let dry.

Step 2: Drip and spray glosses on one side of your cardstock and on one of your pieces of Media Board. Spread with a paintbrush or spray with water to let the gloss flow. Let it dry.

Step 3: Flip the cardstock over and grab the other piece of Media Board. Use different color glosses, maybe try a new color combination, and then let everything dry.

Step 4: Using the Media Board as a guide, mark the short side of your cardstock with lines the same width as the media board. Use a paper trimmer to cut the cardstock into strips.

Step 5: Again, using the media board as a guide, fold the strips into an accordion. You may have one section that is smaller than the rest – that's okay, as we’ll use it to adhere to the cover. Once all your strips are folded, combine them by placing the strips next to each other, then using masking or washi tape on both sides to make one accordion.

Step 6: Now we’ll add the covers. Cover the short ends of your accordion with media glue, then put your media board on top and press firmly. Let dry and repeat on the other side.

Step 7: And now we decorate! Add stamping and focal images and phrases to your covers and the pages. Add splatters, journaling, and other fun bits to make the journal yours!
